UI Football Coach, Three Other Coaches Highest Paid State Employees

IOWA CITY, Iowa - University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz is the highest paid state employee.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports Ferentz made $5.56 million dollars last year.

Four other Iowa coaches have multi-million dollar salaries, including the UI and Iowa State University men’s basketball coaches.

The salaries are in place while some Iowa college sports programs have been cut short, canceled or eliminated altogether because of COVID-19.

The Gazette reports the three coaches behind Ferentz are UI head men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery at $2.5 million, Iowa State University head men’s basketball coach Steve Prohm at $2.375 million, ISU head football coach Matt Campbell at $2.35 million

UI head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder makes nearly $1.1 million.
