Miller Meeks Claims Victory in Tight Iowa Congressional Race

OTTUMWA, Iowa - Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks is claiming victory in the southeastern Iowa Congressional district.

She tweeted a statement Tuesday night indicating she won the election, saying it’s time to "move forward."

Democrat Rita Hart responded, saying the race is too close to call.

Updated results from the Secretary of State's office show Meeks with a slim 47 vote lead over Hart as of early Wednesday morning.

Because of a vote counting error in Lucas County, all of Lucas County’s votes will be recounted by machine, and ballots from the Russell precinct will be recounted by hand. The recount will take place Thursday.

Both Miller-Meeks and Hart have until 5 p.m. Friday to request a recount of the entire congressional district.
