Police Charge Iowa Man After Baby Found With Broken Leg, Brain Bleed

DUBUQUE, Iowa - A Dubuque man is charged with child endangerment with serious injury to his 2-month-old.

Nineteen-year-old Luke Heim is being held on a $26,000 bond after the infant was found to have a broken leg, a brain bleed and bruising to the neck and chest area.

The mother told police the child had red eyes and trouble breathing after staying with Heim over the weekend.

The child was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Heim admitted to officers that he was taking care of the children when he got a call from their mother in the early morning and he said she was intoxicated.

The mother said she told Heim to take the baby to the hospital after the two met up Saturday and she noticed the injuries.
