Iowa Close to 1 Million Fully Vaccinated People, Despite Waning Interest

IOWA - Iowa will likely reach a million people who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in the next few days, despite waning interest in getting shots.

As of Tuesday morning, the fully vaccinated total is approaching 992-thousand, which is about 41 percent of the population.

Well over half the state's adult population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The new totals come as virus cases are down both statewide and nationally. Data from the New York Times shows new case in Iowa are down 16 percent during the last 14 days, and have dropped by 20 percent nationally over the same time period.

All but 13 states are showing falling levels of COVID-19 as of Tuesday morning. The biggest increase, 54 percent in the past 14 days, is in Oregon. The largest drop, 57 percent, is being reported in Oklahoma.

In another sign of lowering COVID-19 rates among vulnerable populations in Iowa, there continues to be only one outbreak at a long term care center in the state.
