(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines Police Department has identified the woman who was shot and killed outside a northeast-side apartment Friday night and her killer.
Police say they responded to a report of a shooting at 4024 Hubbell at 9:21 p.m. and found 41-year-old Christina Marie Dirks on the ground outside the building. She was taken to a local hospital, but died from her injuries.
After residents were evacuated, tactical officers entered the suspect's apartment just after midnight. 42-year-old Rustin Dean Rice was found dead by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
Police say Dirks and Rice had previously lived with each other before Rice moved out on Thursday.
They believe Rice intentionally shot Dirks before intentionally shooting himself afterwards.
