(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines will build a multi-use trail on the west side of the Des Moines River.

Des Moines Parks and Recreation was awarded half a million dollars in federal grant money that they will be using for the trail. A campaign representative says the trail will give kids more opportunities to go out and be active.

The trail will start at downtown Riverwalk Park, go north to the Second Avenue bridge, and extend along the west bank of the Des Moines River to Euclid Avenue.

The trail will start being built next year.
