Iowa DOT Preparing for Winter Months

(Undated) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation has some supply concerns ahead of the eventual snow storms. The DOT says supply chain shortages could impact snow plows this winter. It says it's not guaranteed to get more plow blades until April; and it could change it's plans, but it has backups in case. The DOT has however been stocking up on salt during the summer. It says it uses over 156,000 tons of salt and nearly 33 million gallons of brine each winter. The DOT also reports it doesn't expect staffing to be an issue. It has over 1,000 regular employees and hired over 600 temporary employees to maintain the roads. It has 902 trucks, 42 motor graders, 32 plows and other equipment.

The DOT is also hiring part-time snow-fighters for the winter season. People can apply online at IowaDOT.gov/careers.
