(Des Moines, Iowa) -- A West Des Moines man is in custody after police say he crashed his car into an apartment building while high on drugs.

Police say 23 year-old Nolan Hamilton called 9-1-1 around 11:15 Tuesday night, saying he'd hit an apartment building on Des Moines' south side after taking a corner too fast. No one inside the building was hurt, but the crash did sever a gas line, prompting the evacuation of the building. Investigators say Hamilton was taken to an area hospital where he showed signs of being on narcotics.

Police say drug paraphernalia was found in Hamilton's car. He was taken to the Polk County jail after being released from the hospital, where he faces multiple charges.
