Man Charged In Polk County Break-In That Ended In Gunfire

(Polk County, IA) -- A Des Moines man arrested for a parole violation, is now facing charges in a burglary last month that ended in gunfire. The Polk County Sheriff's Office says when 56-year-old Edward Luncsford was being processed at the jail, he was found with gunshot wounds.

D-N-A and other evidence tied Luncsford to a burglary at 4935 NE 78th Avenue (between Bondurant and Ankeny) that ended with the homeowner firing several shots at the suspect, who was hit by a bullet, but drove away in a mid 2000's white Buick LeSabre.

Polk County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Luncsford March 31st and charged him with Burglary 2nd for the home invasion that occurred on March 21, 2022.

Luncsford was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released back to the Polk County Jail.
