After Dry Spring, Heavy Rains In Nebraska

A slow moving thunderstorm stalled northwest of Omaha/Council Bluffs last night, near Columbus, initially dumping 3 to 5 inches of rain in Platte and Madison counties. 

The emergency manager in the town of Monroe in Platte County reports five and a half inches of rain, and there are reports of amounts above that.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation’s 511 page indicates U.S. Highway 81 in Platte County, Nebraska is closed following heavy rainfall Thursday night.

NDOT says the highway is closed from State Highway 91 to State Highway 22 due to flooding.

U.S. Highway 81 is closed between 242nd Street (3 miles north of Columbus) and NE Highway 91 (8 miles south of Madison).

A Flood Warning was posted into Friday morning for the two counties. 

Another storm in Lancaster County left 1.6 inches of rain in Lincoln overnight.

Omaha's Eppley Field has had .43 inches of rain.
