(Des Moines, Iowa) -- The Des Moines Area Religious Council says they're seeing an increase in the number of people using food pantries.

DMARC CEO Matt Unger says April of this year saw a 42% increase in people using food pantries compared to April of last year, and a 60% increase in May by the same comparison. Unger says June is on pace to see a 75% increase in the number of people coming to food pantries compared to June of 2021.

DMARC is accepting donations and says it's focused on healthy foods such as canned fruit in its own juice, beans, rice, and fresh produce from people's gardens. People can also donate financially or sign up to host a food drive on the DMARC website. You can also find a list of Des Moines area food pantries here.
