Omaha Salvation Army Activates 'Cooling Centers'

The Salvation Army "cooling centers" offer air-conditioned spaces and cold bottled water during specific operating hours.

They’re typically activated during times of extremely hot temperatures.

The Army says anyone in need of relief from the heat is welcome to stop in.

Cooling center hours vary by location:

Heritage Place at Renaissance Village

3612 Cuming St.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Kroc Center

2825 Y St.

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

North Corps

2424 Pratt St.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Salvation Army distributes boxed fans free of charge to those in need through the summer.

The distribution is at the Salvation Army "Burrows Center for Help and Hope" location in the Benson area, 6101 NW Radial Hwy.

Anyone in need is eligible, but preference will be given to the disabled and to seniors.

To receive a fan, one must bring the following to Burrows Center (please call 402-898-5860 with any questions):

. Photo ID

· Social Security card or birth certificate

· Proof of address within the last 30 days
