Police Identify Body Recovered in Rock River Near Dixon, Illinois

(Dixon, IL) -- Dixon Police say the body recovered Wednesday from the Rock River has been identified.

Police are identifying the body as that of 40 year-old James Shirk of Dixon. Family members reported Shirk missing Tuesday evening. Witnesses say he was last seen near the Custer Avenue boat ramp in an orange kayak. So far, the kayak has not been recovered.

Anyone with further information on Shirk's death is asked to contact the Dixon Police Department, the Lee County Sherriff's Department, or the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
