(West Des Moines, IA) -- A collection is underway of donated school supplies in West Des Moines. Althea Holcomb of West Des Moines Human Services says they'll accepted donated supplies thru August 5th. She says they expect to serve more than 400 K-12 students from low income families. She says they typically get a good supply of crayons, glue sticks, and scissors, but usually need more calculators, sharpies, highlighters, and post-it notes. Other items needed include: backpacks, markers, pencil pouches, rulers, paper, spiral notebooks, folders, erasers, pens, pencils and tissues.

Those with donations can drop off items at the West Des Moines Human Services building at 139 6th Street, in Valley Junction. Donations are accepted between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. There's also an option to order supplies on the West Des Moines Amazon School Supply list.
