(Des Moines, IA) -- There is cleanup to be done and damage to be assessed after severe storms in the Des Moines metro area.

Giant hail broke windows and damaged cars and roofs Friday afternoon, with the largest hail, from 2 to 3 inches reported in West Des Moines and Grimes.

2.5 inches of rain in some parts of Des Moines caused Flash Flooding in the city during afternoon drive. See rainfall totals map below.

There were reports of cars stranded in water, and a water rescue after one driver called 911 saying they were trapped and the inside of their car was filling with water.

Storm hits Iowa State Fair

Some Flash Flooding was reported at the Iowa State Fair during the storms Friday afternoon.

Several cars became stuck in water and mud in a parking lot at the Fair. The mud was too deep to go in, and the tow trucks winch cables are too short to reach the cars to pull them out of the mud.
