(Linn Co., IA) -- The North Linn Community School District hopes classes will resume next week after district leaders were forced to delay the start of school because of asbestos problems. The school district recently sent a letter to families saying classes will resume Monday, as long as its fire alarms are certified Friday afternoon. School was supposed to start after Labor Day but was delayed after asbestos was found inside a high school office.

Dear North Linn Families,
We have had teachers in their rooms working today, and have our fire alarms being inspected and hopefully certified on Friday afternoon. Providing we get certification Friday afternoon, students will start school on Monday, September 12th for all K-12 students. M/Th classes of preschool will also start that day, and T/F classes will start Tuesday, September 13th.
Elementary students should bring their school supplies with them on the first day of school. Parents are welcome to come that morning and take students to their classrooms. All students will go directly to their rooms that morning instead of the gym. Then any student who is eating breakfast will be taken down to eat if needed. We will plan to start class at 8:20 on the first day to allow a little more time to get settled. We plan to do a big Leader in Me kickoff in classes during the first few days of school, so we are excited to have students back!
6-12th grade students should meet in the HS gym on the first day before going to their homerooms to start the day.
6th grade students will have planned activities during 1st and 2nd periods the first day to get them acclimated and go through expectations and questions. 9th grade students will also have activities planned the first day. Mrs. Hilmer will send an email regarding this with more information.
A reminder that students may enter the building no earlier than 7:45am on school days. Due to construction, all MS/HS students should enter the MS main entrance, Elementary main entrance, or the back elementary entrance where buses drop off only. Any MS/HS student who would like to eat breakfast should go through the elementary cafeteria.
We will confirm that we passed the certification on Friday and send a text and email that we are officially starting on Monday. We are looking forward to seeing all of you soon!
