Federal grant will help Bellevue in its first steps to replace old bridge

(Bellevue, NE) -- The City of Bellevue is getting over $400,000 in federal funding to help plan the replacement of a crumbling bridge near Offutt Air Force Base.

On Wednesday, the Biden Administration announced that Bellevue would get a $440,000 grant to help pay for the planning stage of replacing the Fort Crook Road bridge that runs over the Papio Creek. The grant funding comes from the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure bill. With the federal funding, the City of Bellevue will only have to come up with roughly $110,000 to complete the planning process, which includes determining a timeline for replacement and the total cost of replacement. An environmental study will also be conducted with the grant money.

The city believes it will be about three years before construction on the bridge can start.
