Omaha Public Schools Bus Change Okayed

The Omaha Public School District officially changes its school bus eligibility policy.

Nearly three thousand families will be impacted by the changes approved by the school board at its Monday night meeting.

Under the new policy, to begin next school year, the eligible distance for busing for elementary students will change from one mile to one-and-half-miles, and middle school students' eligibility will change from one-and-a-half to two miles.

District staff says the changes are being made due to a school bus driver shortage with the district's transportation contractor.
