(Des Moines, IA) -- Gender identity would no longer be protected under the Iowa Civil Rights Act in a bill introduced in the state House.

The Iowa Civil Rights Act protects residents from being discriminated based on race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, ancestry or disability.

House File 190 would remove gender identity from the code. If the bill were to pass, transgender Iowans would be vulnerable to unfair practices in employment, housing, education, credit, accommodations and services.
