Cedar Rapids Man Charged In Early Morning Homicide

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Cedar Rapids Police say a man's been charged with First Degree Murder in connection with a shooting early this (Wednesday) morning in the 21-hundred block of Buckingham Drive NW.

Officers were called out around 4:45 a.m. on a shots fired report and found 27-year-old Jorge Maldonado-Vasquez of Cedar Rapids with gunshot wounds. Emergency medical care was given at the scene and the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Twenty-one-year-old Brannon Johnson of Cedar Rapids, has been arrested and charged with Murder in the First Degree and is now in the Linn County Jail.

There is an active, ongoing investigation and no further details are available.
