(Ankeny, IA) -- The city of Ankeny says some residents could see discolored water coming out of their faucets this week.

Ankeny's annual fire hydrant flushing will begin this week and last through the spring and into the summer months. This year 25 hundred hydrants will be flushed on the city's west side, west of Ankeny Boulevard on the city's southwest and northwest sides. The city says residents could see some discolored water coming out of their faucets during the process, but it should clear after a few minutes. The city says that water will be safe to use throughout the hydrant flushing process.

The city of Ankeny says residents whose water doesn't clear up within a few minutes should contact Municipal Utilities Customer Service (515)963-3565.
