(Omaha, NE) -- A man is placed in custody after firing a gun in the direction of a Douglas County Sheriff's deputy.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says Tuesday night, deputies were called to a home near 188th and Blondo Street for a domestic disturbance. Investigators say once on the scene, a deputy met with a victim but had to retreat behind his cruiser after hearing a gunshot come from inside the house. DCSO says the shot went through a window of the home.

The sheriff's office says after an hour-long standoff, a 39 year old man surrendered and was placed into custody. DCSO says that man was placed into emergency protective custody. During a search of the home, deputies located two handguns, ammunition and a spent 40 caliber shell casing.

Family members told investigators that the man is a military veteran who suffers from PTSD. DCSO says it also appeared that the man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the standoff.
