Casey Thompson leaves Nebraska, enters transfer portal

(Lincoln, NE) -- Starting Husker quarterback Casey Thompson is leaving Nebraska.

It was announced Friday that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal. Thompson threw for over 2,400 yards last season, racking up 17 touchdowns. Thompson is the third quarterback to leave the program this week, after redshirt freshman Richard Torres and Logan Smothers. Nebraska is now left with three scholarship quarterbacks, Georgia Tech transfer Jeff Sims, Chubba Purdy and Heinrich Haarberg.

Thompson struggled with injuries last season, and underwent off-season shoulder surgery. His injuries have plagued him into 2023 and caused him to sit out during last week's Husker Spring game. Sims is now expected to take over as Nebraska's starting quarterback.
