(Urbandale, IA) -- The Iowa Board of Regents is considering voting for a tuition increase in June. The proposed increase of 3.5% would raise resident undergraduate tuition at the University of Iowa by $305, Iowa State University by $304, and the University of Northern Iowa by $285. Resident undergraduates had an increase of 4.25% for FY 2023. The 3.5% rate would still not reach the rate of inflation, which is projected at around 5%.

The rate is less when compared to the most recent increase in Iowans' personal income capita of around 7.4%, according to Regent David Barker. "We're continuing to be affordable for middle class Iowans," Barker said in a meeting on Thursday.

The vote on a potential increase is scheduled for the Board of Regents' meeting on June 13th and 14th.
