(Des Moines, IA) -- Tickets went on sale at 10 o'clock this (Wednesday) morning for an Iowa Hawkeye doubleheader featuring the men's and women's teams. Adam Flack of the Iowa Events Center says by 11 a.m. nearly all the tickets had been sold. The Iowa men will play Florida A & M and the women will play Cleveland State December 16th at Wells Fargo in Des Moines.

Flack says the demand was very strong as soon as the tickets went on sale.

Some tickets will be held for the teams and the promoter but Flack says they do not expect to be able to release large numbers of tickets for purchase to fans.

The Iowa women’s basketball team is coming off an historic season in which it won a school-record 31 games en route to a NCAA national runner-up finish. This will mark the first time in program history the Hawkeye women have ever played in Wells Fargo Arena.

“We’re excited to play in our state’s capital at Wells Fargo Arena,” said P. Sue Beckwith, MD, Iowa women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder. “It will be another great opportunity for both the men’s and women’s programs at Iowa to play in front of Hawkeye fans in Des Moines.”

The Hawkeye men, who are one of 10 teams in the country to compete in the last four NCAA Tournaments, will be making their ninth appearance at Wells Fargo Arena.

The University of Iowa women’s basketball team will embark on a summer, three-game tour of Southern Italy and Croatia in August. The Hawkeyes’ trip will take them to the Amalfi Coast, Dubrovnik, Naples and Split with three games against opponents to be determined at a later date. The trip will be the first for Iowa since the program visited Spain in the summer of 2019.
