UPDATE: Five People Missing in Davenport Building Collapse

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Five people remain unaccounted for after a Davenport, Iowa apartment complex partially collapsed Sunday.

"We understand that this is an unthinkable situation...especially for the families that are involved and impacted by this event," says Davenport Mayor Mike Matson.

He said two of the five people are thought to be in the building.

Amy Anderson says her bother, Ryan Hitchcock, is among the two. She says he'd be "mortified" at those protesting the city's plan to demolish the building.

"The city does have a plan and pushing any delays is one more day that he's under there. Going through all of this, Ryan wouldn't want anyone else to put their lives at risk," she says.

During a Tuesday morning news conference, city officials also talked about the condition of what's left of the building.

"It's the opinion of the structural engineers, that any additional search operations in the area of that pile of debris should be avoided to to potential collapse," says Davenport Fire Marhsal Jim Morris.

A ninth survivor was found Monday night on a non-collapsed part of the building's fourth floor.

City officials say they don't know how that woman was found so late or how she got there.
