Des Moines Rolls Out New Online Crime Map

(Des Moines, IA) -- Residents all across the Des Moines metro now have access to the new police crime map being rolled out today.

The new online mapping tool lets Des Moines metro residents track crime, with filters that help narrow the search.

Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek says you can track crime with filters based on date, neighborhood, types of crime, and more.

He says "Certainly encourage you to go to this tool because what you can do is you can search by that address and it will take you to that block. So when you start searching by an address it's going to give you the activity for approximately a six to eight block radius around there."

The City of Des Moines says they're working with the Polk County Sheriff's Office to include information from other participating cities, including Ankeny, Altoona, Johnston, Pleasant Hill, and more.

The map is updated every 15 minutes and can be found on the Des Moines city website.
