Health Reminders As Temps Rise In Omaha/Council Bluffs Region

With high temperatures expected for the next couple of days in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area, the Douglas County Health Department has some standard safety reminders:

• Never leave a person or an animal in a closed, parked vehicle.

• Drink plenty of fluids, water is best, before you get thirsty.

• Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine.

• Take advantage of air conditioning as much as you can.

• Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

• The cooler morning and evening hours are best for outdoor activities.

• Athletes participating in outdoor activities need special attention and lots of fluids.

• People 65 years of age or older and children are at the greatest risk for heat injuries. Please check in on them.

• A sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher should be used when outside.

• Check for heat advisory updates, especially between noon and 6 p.m.
