Des Moines Police Arrest Wanted Felon After Wednesday Standoff

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police say a wanted felon is in custody after a one hour standoff Wednesday.

Police say the man threw lumber, furniture, and a window air conditioner at officers before barricading himself inside a home. Police say it took negotiators about a hour to convince the suspect to surrender to police. No one was hurt during the incident, and the suspect's name has not been released.

Des Moines Police officers make roughly 200,000 public contacts a year, and less than 1% involve the use of force.
