Omaha Homicide Suspect Shot and Killed in Council Bluffs After Chase

(Council Bluffs, IA) -- Omaha Police say a suspect sought in connection with a homicide early Saturday morning was shot and killed after a high-speed pursuit in Council Bluffs Saturday afternoon. It came after a car jacking and high speed chase beginning after 3:30 p.m.

OPD had earlier told the public to be on the lookout for 42-year-old Matthew Briggs as a person of interest in the death of 52-year-old Steven Greg Donsbach at a home in the area of Regency Park early Saturday morning.

The pursuit exceeded 100 miles per hour and crossed into Council Bluffs Iowa on Interstate 80 before before moving south on Interstate 29. The chase later ended at College Road near Iowa Western Community College. Two officers then fired weapons, killing Briggs.

OPD Captain Jeremy Christensen said in a press conference that officers performed life-saving measures on Briggs before he was transported to Nebraska Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
