Volunteers Assist In Tracking Heat Islands In CR And IC

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- 55 volunteers in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City assisted the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration over the weekend by using a device placed on their cars to map out urban heat islands.

Heat islands are areas with more pavement and fewer trees.

The data collected will assist both cities in their Climate Action Plans to mitigate areas of extreme heat.
