The Omaha Public Power District Board looks to the future and how it will power a growing Omaha Metro area.
The Board okays a power generation plan in anticipation of continued growth in the utility's southeast Nebraska service area, and the utility says a rate increase of approximately 2.5 per cent to three per cent per year between 2027 and 2030 is likely to pay for it.
There is also a regional view to generating new power;
Southwest Power Pool, OPPD’s regional transmission consortium, requires member utilities to maintain enough capacity to meet peak electricity demand, plus have an extra reserve margin of 15%.
That requirement is up from 12%.
