(Eagle Pass, TX) -- Governor Jim Pillen is at the southern border with Mexico checking in on Nebraska National Guard soldiers working on immigration issues.

"What's my one word of what I've experienced, my first time here?" said Governor Pillen. "My one word is disbelief. Absolutely disbelief of the misrepresentation of the buoys... The misrepresentation of who's coming."

Pillen says he took the oath of office to defend against all foreign and domestic foes, and that he wanted to go to the border to uphold that.

He's taking issue with the misrepresentation of the job being done by the buoys in the Rio Grande River. Some people are calling them unsafe, but Pillen says they're doing their job.

"I'm a pig farmer, it's hogwash. Pun intended, hogwash," says Pillen. "The buoys are a deterrent. They don't cause a band aid, and if they do, I say what the heck stay on your side of the river."

Pillen says he's also concerned we're not taking seriously who's crossing the border into America.

"I mean we are fighting cartels that are trying to kill our kids," says Pillen. "That's one thing in the United States we all surely agree on, right, is our kids?"

Nebraska National Guard soldiers will be at the southern border until next month.
