Normalizing Impeachment

Need To Know extra features Jeff's thoughts on an additional topic that he did not discuss on his radio show:

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is now saying that initiating an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden would be a "natural step forward."

It shouldn't be.

We are normalizing impeaching as a regular part of our political process. Impeachment is an awesome power of government and should be used RARELY. It involves the government saying, "yes, we know the voters sent this person to DC, but we have decided to kick them out even against the wishes of the voters."

Because our political system involves both revenge and people getting emotional satisfaction out of angering their opponents, our elected representatives should show restraint. That's exactly what they DIDN'T do with Trump. And it was wrong then and it's wrong now.

Over my years in Iowa, I've seen "impeach Branstad" and "impeach Vilsack" bumper stickers targeting the former Governors. I never thought we'd normalize impeachment as a regular part of our political process.

We are on the cusp of seeing impeachments as far as the eye can see. The voters can decide in regard to what they've heard. That's where the REAL power SHOULD lie.
