Iowa's Unemployment Rate Up Slightly in August

(Iowa) -- Iowa saw a slight increase in its overall unemployment rate in August.

Unemployment in August rose to 2.9 percent in August, up from July's 2.7 percent. The state's labor participation rate also decreased from 68.8 percent to 68.7 percent in July. The state's unemployment rate remains below the national unemployment rate of 3.8 percent. Overall, 1,692,400 Iowans are participating in the state's workforce. That's a decrease of 2,000 from July but still 24,300 more than August of last year. Despite the increase in unemployment, roughly 65,000 jobs are still available in Iowa.
