(Iowa City, IA) -- Iowa Hawkeye Head Coach Kirk Ferentz is confirming that quarterback Cade McNamara suffered an ACL injury during last weekend's game against Michigan State. The non-contact injury happened early in the game. McNamara had to be helped off the field.

"It is not good, not positive, I was suspicious of that the other night, he has an ACL injury that will have to be repaired and he'll miss the rest of the season," said Ferentz.

Ferentz says he does expect McNamara to recover and to return next year.

Deacon Hill will start this Saturday when Iowa hosts Purdue.

Ferentz also says running back Jaziun Patterson , who missed the last two games, will not play Saturday. He says Kaleb Johnson has a chance to play but that decision will not he made until later in the week.
