Man Arrested After Wrong-Way Chase On Highway 30 Near Ames

(Story County, IA) -- An Iowa man's facing charges after a short chase on Highway 30 near Ames today (Monday). The Story County Sheriff's Office started getting calls about a white 2004 Ford Expedition driving erratically on Highway around 1:30 p.m. today (Monday). The driver eluded a Story County Sheriff's deputy by driving the wrong way on the highway, leading officers on a 10-minute chase, on to the Lincoln Highway (Lincoln Way) in west Ames. .

Officers used a PIT Maneuver, and the driver flipped the SUV, in the 3800 block of Lincoln Way in Ames. Officers then used a taser on 20-year-old Ty Shoulders of Sioux City, to take him into custody. The Sheriff's Office says during the chase, the suspect rammed a deputy's squad car, causing heavy damage. A second squad car, a CYRide bus and another vehicle were also damaged, but there were no injuries.

Shoulders is charged with felony eluding and further charges are possible.
