Trial Date Set for Man Accused of Killing Algona Police Officer Last Month

(Iowa) -- A trial date is set for the man accused of killing an Algona Police officer last month.

Kyle Ricke's trial will begin on December 12th of this year. Ricke is accused of shooting and killing Officer Kevin Cram on September 13th while Cram was attempting to serve an arrest warrant after reports that Ricke was harassing an ex-girlfriend. Investigators say after the shooting, he fled to Minnesota, where he was arrested the following morning in the town of Sleepy Eye. Ricke is facing charges of first-degree murder.

On October 6th, he filed a written plea of not guilty.
