After Baby Surprise, Omaha Firefighters' Training Takes Over

Like all first responders, Omaha firefighters at Station 21 in North Omaha "expect the unexpected," and that recently included a baby being left at their front door.

The discovery was last weekend.

"You know, this isn't something that we run across very often," Omaha Fire Battalion Chief Coby Werner tells KFAB Radio News. "The last time we had a situation like this was approximately ten years ago at one of our stations down in South Omaha, so it's definitely something that doesn't happen alot ."

Werner says the abandoned male newborn was quickly checked over, appeared healthy, and was taken to a hospital as the police investigation continues.
