(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Electric and natural gas rates may be going up for many Iowans. Alliant Energy, which serves nearly a million customers in Iowa and Wisconsin, is asking the Iowa Utilities Board for a combined 13.4-percent increase in electricity rates over two years. They also want a five percent increase in natural gas rates. Alliant says they need the increases to offset rising costs. If approved, the increases would start late next year. The Iowa Utilities Board must approve the request, and can make changes. They'll hold hearings within ten months.
