Iowa Capitol Searched Saturday After Social Media Threat

(Des Moines, IA) -- A social media threat prompted an investigation and sweep of the Iowa State Capitol building in Des Moines Saturday afternoon. The threat came via a report by U.S. Capitol Police shortly before 1 p.m. According to a press release, the threat was determined to not be credible. Out of an abundance of caution, members of the State Fire Marshal's Office along with the Iowa State Patrol swept through the Capitol building. After finding nothing, operations resumed as normal. The nature of the social media threat was not disclosed.
