(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A Cedar Rapids heritage group has forced a special meeting of the school district to reconsider the demolition of Harrison Elementary. The school is part of the Cedar Rapids Community School District's facilities plan to reorganize their building inventory. But Save CR Heritage Board Member Cindy Hadish tells Iowa's News Now that there is an alternative to demolition. "We have information that shows it's eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, that could save taxpayers money if they get grants and instruct tax credits for rehabbing," she says.

Save CR Heritage collected enough signatures on a petition to force a special meeting of the School District to discuss the demolition. That meeting is tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at the school district headquarters.
