Cedar Rapids Discussing Situation Over Elementary School

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The city of Cedar Rapids discusses whether to demolish Harrison Elementary School.

A special board meeting was held Thursday that ended with no change in plans.

The school board had already agreed to demolish the school back in April, but Save CR Heritage got hundreds of signatures to try to keep it alive.

Save CR Heritage claims the 100-year-old school can register to be on the National Register of Historic Places, which allows them to apply for grants to repair the school.

The school board would have to approve that.

Harrison Elementary School is still planned to be demolished.
