Retail-Sports-Entertainment Complex Planned Between Omaha And Lincoln

(Omaha, NE) -- An application's been submitted to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development for a plan to create a new destination retail-youth sports-entertainment complex on I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln.

"These are things people travel out of state to do." Gretna Mayor Mike Evans tells KFAB Radio News.

"If we can have those in our state, to increase quality of life, provide that economic development for our area, it would be a fantastic win." He said.

If the application is approved by the Department of Economic Development, the project would be a qualified Nebraska Good Life District, a development designation created by the legislature last Spring.

Evans says the plan would Good Life Districts are designed to help Nebraska compete with destinations like Kansas City, Denver, and Minneapolis. Exact details are not being released yet but Mayor Evans says the new development will bring tens of thousands of jobs.

The developer, Rod Yates, also owns the Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall in Gretna. Yates was interviewed on Grow Omaha on KFAB in July about his future development plans.
