The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services reports an elderly inmate has died at a hospital in Lincoln.
They say 85 year old Leonard Svitak was an inmate at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.
Corrections says Svitak’s sentence began on September 20th,1974.
He was serving a ten year to life sentence for second degree murder out of Lancaster County.
While the cause of death has not yet been determined, Corrections say Svitak was being treated for a medical condition.
As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the state, a grand jury will conduct an investigation under state law.
