(Moline, IL) -- Moline is expanding its rental housing inspection program for next year.

Beginning in 2024, all rental properties in the city of Moline, including single-family rentals, must be licensed and pay a rental inspection fee based on the total number of units.

The program was approved at a city council meeting held on November 21st.

Currently, only large, multi-family rental complexes were given the inspection.

According to a news release from the city, the program will be funded through inspection fees, not the general fund, meaning landlords and tenants, not general taxpayers, will cover the cost.

Moline Community and Economic Development Director Chris Mathias says the goal is to bring up the overall quality of the city’s housing stock, ensure the safety and health of tenants and improve the overall quality of neighborhoods.
