UI Football Assistant Coach Wins Award For Best Assistant Coach

(Iowa City, IA) -- The University of Iowa Football program officially has the best assistant coach in the country.

On Tuesday, defensive coordinator and secondary coach Phil Parker took home the 2023 Broyles Award.

The ceremony took place in Little Rock, Arkansas and the other nominees for the award included Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, LSU offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, Michigan offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore and Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein.

The annual award recognizes the best assistant coach in college football.

Parker's defense was 5th best in the FBS, allowing about 275 yards per game.

He has coached alongside head coach Kirk Ferentz since 2012 and has been with the program since 1999.
