(Des Moines, IA) -- A local holiday tradition starts Friday in Des Moines.

The Greater Des Moines Partnership Announced this week that their 4th annual "Hide and Seek Ornaments You Keep" pop-up activation will soon begin.

From Friday, December 8th through Sunday the 17th, artists will be placing handmade ornaments all over downtown.

Whoever finds an ornament gets to keep it for free.

The ornaments will be hidden in trees, near restaurants, shops, and attractions to encourage people to support local businesses.

The ornaments will be easily accessible and artists will share and post clues on the whereabouts of the ornaments each day, search for them using #DSMUSA, #downtownDSM and #DSMlocal on social media.

The tradition takes place in the Western Gateway, Court Avenue, the East Village, and central downtown.

This year, ornaments will also be hidden in various counties throughout The Partnership's service area, allowing residents across the region to participate.

A list of participating artists along with the regional schedule can be found on the Des Moines Partnership website.
