(Iowa City, IA) -- Iowa City is offering free Christmas tree pickup.

According to the city's website, curbside customers can put their natural, unflocked tree out on their normal curbside pickup day.

The city says all decorations must be removed and the tree cannot be in a plastic bag.

If you don't have curbside composting, Johnson County residents can bring their tree to the Iowa City Landfill’s Compost Facility to be composted at no cost.

The landfill is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but will be closed on Monday, January 1st, 2024.

If you're tossing out an artificial tree, you need to schedule a bulky item pickup or take it directly to the landfill.

Artificial trees can be reused or donated to the local secondhand store if still usable.
