(Marshall Co, IA) -- An Iowa Sheriffs deputy walked a half a mile in a blizzard to help a woman deliver her baby.

The Marshall County Sheriffs Office says Saturday at around 11:20 p.m., a woman located at 1359 Binford Avenue, called 911 in labor, but because of the blizzard, an ambulance was unable to reach her.

A deputy got out of his car and walked the remaining half mile to the woman's home as she remained online with the Marshall County Communications Center.

He stayed with her until the Clemons Fire Department was able to use a tractor to clear a path for the ambulance.

The Sheriff's Office says the woman gave birth at approximately 12:38 a.m.

The baby and mother were taken to UnityPoint Health.

Their conditions are not being reported.
